Well, here’s video of me and my cousin Lucy dancing to Loca People’s “Sak Noel” in the early part (meaning we weren’t even drunk!) of a party I was hosting this weekend. We had no idea Bill was filming. I did see him with his phone, but thought he was trying to take pictures… at one point, I even offer him my camera, because I just *knew* his wouldn’t turn out:P
We had just been traveling (and doing a LOT of dancing) in Europe together and we brought this song back to the states… in a big way!
Wow! What a fun and debaucherous Pride weekend. My longtime friend Stu came in from Florida and his boyfriend Dan came from Detroit. We had a fun time bouncing around from place to place with no particular agenda. We met up with my awesome friends Jason Vincent and Christopher Downey. During the parade, when drag queen Manilla went by in her float, Stu started telling me about this amazing dress she wore on the Rupaul reality show. It was a Big Bird-inspired dress. Stu was going on and on about how amazing it was. Turns out, Jason is the designer who m ade that dress!
Labelmate Jeremy Gloff goes on right after me at 9:45p. His show is definitely not to be missed! He kind of does a gay pop music performance art-type show. It’s likely like nothing you’ve ever seen!
Here’s a link to the full lineup on the Branded Saloon Website. There are going to acts playing all day long starting in the afternoon.
Had another band rehearsal today… it’s going great! Thought I would post this video of one of the songs. In case you ever wondered what goes on at band practice…. here it is… uncut, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. Figuring out the tempo… mistakes… it’s all there. We’re getting ready for our 6/21/11 gig at Branded Saloon in Brooklyn for the Make Music New York Festival. (Check the “Shows” page of the site for details.) Oh, and that’s Andrew Toy on drums and Chris Peace on bass. Thanks to Adam Monaco for letting us use the rehearsal space!
Today I had an impromptu Memorial Day BBQ and jam session with local drummer Andrew Toy. He’s going to help me out on my June 21st gig at Branded Saloon in Brooklyn. We had a sweaty, balmy mini-rehearsal in his cute attic practice room. Afterward, when we were outside cooking, the neighbors all said it sounded nice:)
It looks like I’m going to be able to be involved with the Girls Rock Philly Camp this year! It’s this cool nonprofit camp for girls ages 9-17 where they form a band, write songs, rehearse, do a performance at World Cafe Live, and record a song for a compilation CD… all that happens in one week! I’m going to be teaching a songwriting workshop and possibly being a band coach. My band might do a performance for the campers during camp week, too. I’m excited!
One of the bands from last year's camp-- called "Where The Waves Break."
On Monday after Ultra was over, we hung out with some of the promoters, etc at a famous dive bar called Club Deuce on South Beach. (Famous to me b/c they gave me food poisoning. Seriously.) It was a beautiful day outside, but you’d never know it inside that dark, smoky den whose claim to fame is in having been open 23 hours a day since the 50′s. (They close in the morning for an hour to mop the floor.)
The characters in there! There was a guy with an eyepatch. A guy who would talk to you, but nothing he said sounded like words. There were the dogs lounging on the floor. Our old friend Matty from Tampa (whose arms are flailing around talking to Bunny in the video) there. Oh, and for some reason, I caught this video of Henry singing an unlikely song… (watch for the eyepatch guy in the background!)
So, all in all Ultra was really cool. Electronic music isn’t really my thing. Actually, let me take that back. House music isn’t really my thing. But I met a lot of great people and got to spend time with friends and do some partying South Beach style on rooftop penthouses (thanks Bunny!) and hot tubs and stuff.
Our friends from Rabbit In The Moon were headlining one of the stages at Ultra on Friday night. They do a performance art show to their original electronic music. Their stage show is pretty badass! Henry worked with them on their new track shown in the first video called “I’m Your Drug.” So catchy.
Here are some videos from the show:
Just a short video (battery was dying), but that LED suit is so crazy. The visuals on his body are being controlled in real time by our friend Brian.
Pictures from the bus afterward:
Here’s me in Bunny’s space helmet before the show:)
